Gift for grandsons.

This was a gift for my grandsons, 9 & 7 years old. They love Lego and we’re thrilled with this.

Good for the price

Bought this for my 4 yo but I'm doing all the work. You do get more than what you paid for. A set like this from a "brand name" would run at least $300 but there would be a noticeable difference in quality. That being said, for 50 bucks, this is definitely not bad. The pieces aren't as flush as the brand name, and parts of some assemblies do require additional pieces to help strengthen the structure. I recommend having spare brand name pieces on hand for that.

The assembly instructions are clear. Used all the pieces for the 8 smaller vehicles. Note: There's 16 bags of pieces. Two bags of each number 1-8. A police car would take two bags of #3. A police truck two bags of #5, etc. Each vehicle requires two bags of the same number. Try to keep the pieces separated the way they come to help find the correct pieces easier. I'll update once I've destroyed all eight vehicles to make the command center.

Just like Lego

My 11 year old chose this set for his birthday this year and has loved it. They're not Lego brand, but click together as such. They don't have as detailed instructions as one would hope and it took a little looking further to understand which pieces we were trying to put in whichever spot. The set makes each of the smaller vehicles, which are actually pretty good sized for play, but if you want the large semi truck, you have to take all the vehicles apart to use their pieces. That was kind of a letdown for my son.

Great value, but not very easy to build

My son wanted this set for his birthday, and it's a great value for what you get, but it is harder to assemble than I expected (more difficult than the Lego brand sets we've used). The larger truck in particular uses a lot of little 1-square flat pieces or other small or oddly shaped pieces rather than larger pieces that would be more tailored to that particular vehicle. Once you build it, you will not want to take it apart to use the pieces for anything else because it just takes too much work to build (it took me a few hours I think with my son "helping" a tiny bit to sort pieces because it was just too tough and time consuming for him). You cannot build all of the vehicles at the same time with this set. Either you can build all the little vehicles (their blocks come separated into different bags for each vehicle) OR you can use nearly all the blocks to build the police station and the big truck. My mom wound up buying us a duplicate of this set so that my son could build all of the little vehicles too without disassembling the big one, and I'm so glad she did. I would not have wanted to take that big truck apart; my son loves having all of the vehicles to play with together; and having the second set also helped for the 2-3 small pieces that we couldn't find in the one set (we might have lost them). The smaller vehicles are mostly easier to assemble than the big one (largely because their pieces are separated out in individual bags so that you aren't dealing with so many pieces at once), but they don't all stay together as easily as one would hope or expect. Still, it's a good set. My son loves it. Just don't expect it to be easy to put together.
